Since 1994, Markopoulo Figs have been designated as Protected Geographical Indication (P.G.I.) products under the name "SYKA VRAVRONAS MARKOPOULOU MESOGEION", recognizing in this way the exquisite qualities these fruits possess and which they owe both to the adaptation of the fig tree to the micro-climate and soil of the Markopoulo region as well as to the special farming methods that the local farmers have developed throughout the years and condense the experience of many decades.
Our farms and packaging facilities are both certified organic by TUV Austria. We cultivate our figs using the most up-to-date practices of organic farming, showing respect to our product and nature. No herbicides or chemical fertilizers are used and much of the necessary tasks, such as weed control, are performed through manual labour. In this way we produce healthy and tasty figs with minimum impact on the environment!
GlobalG.A.P. (a Trademark and Set of Standards for Good Agricultural Practices) reassures the continuous application of Good Agricultural Practices in all of the production stages, from cultivation, sorting and packaging to storage and transportation. This set of practices aim to the sustainability of the production through the minimization of agrochemical use, the minimization of damages to the environment, the optimization in the use of natural resources etc as well as the safety both of the products and the employees.
